In general, corruption means committing crimes and irregularities. Corruption is one of the major problems with which Bangladesh is troubled to a great extent. Nowadays, corruption has become a very common phenomenon in every sphere of our life. It is a social problem and it has spread its greedy clutches all over the country. Starting from high government officials, law enforcement agencies and even ordinary peons are allegedly involved in corruption. In most cases, these groups of people indulge in corruption to provide or avail illegal services and even sometimes legal services. It is matter of shame that ours is a country that has topped the list of most corrupt countries for consecutive five times at the beginning of this century. The consequences of corruption are very alarming. It devours the country's economy, and affects sustainable development, and law and order in a country. Besides, various crimes, irregularities and illegal activities have increased in every sector due to corruption. The widespread practice of corruption should not be allowed to spread its clutches any further. The corrupt people must be punished and the existing anti-corruption laws must be exercised in full swing to put a leash to corruption.
