It was on 25 May 2008. We visited Paharpur. We started our journey from Patnitala, Naogaon. The distance from Patnitala to Paharpur is not long. We started at Nazirpur Govt. College at 8 a.m. We hired a small bus. The driver began to drive the bus. After a few minutes, we reached Dhamurhat. We took a short break there. Then our journey began again. We reached Paharpur at 10 a.m. We saw the relies of the 7th century on. It is the largest single Buddhist monastery in the Indian Sub-continent and is also known as the Sompura Mahavira, the great monastery. It was a renowned intellectual center from the 7th century until the 17th century. It was used for religious purposes. We visited the museum of Paharpur. It was at the eastern side of the monastery. We saw many statues of Goutam Buddha in this museum. We observed many old coins. Many sculptures of Hindu gods and goddesses are kept in this museum. We saw those statues. There was a booklet about the history of this 'Sompur Mahavihara'. We met an old man in that place. His age was more than 80. He described the history of the place. He said that this place had been a jungle. In the early twenties, some people from Calcutta had visited the place and cut the jungle. The then British Government had dug it and seen the relics we passed four peaceful hours in Paharpur and then started our return journey. We reached home at 9 p.m.
