A book fair is a fair where books are displayed for selling, advertising and ot public recognition. Book fair is arranged to inspire viewers, readers and critics to buy and read more books. Now a days book fair is held almost in every cities and towns of Bangladesh regularly. It is usually held at a definite place on a special day of the year. There are at least two major book fairs held in our country in national and international level. One is Amar Ekushey Grantha Mela' which is held in national level. The Dhaka International Book Fair is held in international level. Besides these two book fairs other small-scale book fairs are held in cities and towns on different national occasions such as the 16th December, the 26th March etc. The motto of a book fair is to spread the message in favour of reading more books. The main purpose of a book fair is to inspire the people from all walks of life for reading book. A book fair is a meeting place for the writers, readers and publishers. Readers come into direct contact with their favourite writers. They can take autographs from their favourite writers. A book fair generally lasts for a week or even for a month. Many a publishers everywhere from Bangladesh and sometimes those from the neighbouring countries take part in a book fair. The stalls are nicely decorated. Books of varied interest are displayed and sold there. Sometimes cultural functions and discussion programmes are held in a book fair. Seminars are also held in such a fair where intellectuals take part to discuss on different subjects. Other articles like cassettes of songs, posters, viewcards, calendars are sold in a book fair. Essentially there must be some fast food stalls where the visitors can have refreshment. A book fair is so popular that it is visited by all classes of people everyday to the last day of the fall. It is liked by the people of all ages children, youths or adults. Visiting a book fair is really a nice experience. Last year I went to the Amar Ekushey Grantha Mela organized by Bangla Academy in the premises of the Institution. I went there to see the newly published books. I also bought some of the new books by my favourite writers. All types of books such as drama, poetry, adventure, biography, translation are usually available in a book fair. To make a book fair successful the government should play effective role to encourage new writers to wRite good books. Besides, the environment of the fair should be made comfortable for the visitors. The stalls should be set up in a systematic way. There should have good arrangement for sanitation and refreshments. Steps should be taken to make the fair dust free. Moreover, the law and order agents should ensure the security around the fair area.
