Language refers to the meaningful sounds that we utter to communicate with others. Language has its written form too. Again, the language which has been accepted as a means of international communication is called an international language. English is the mother tongue of the people of English and America. About 300 million people use it as a second language who are not of English origin. It is the official or semi-official language in more than 60 countries. Many international organizations hold their meetings in English. In this way English has attained the prestige of being the lang age for communication beyond national borders. So. English language is accepted globally as the international language connecting people around the world. English being the international language we should learn it for our own good. It is necessary in trade, commerce and industrial development. English is needed for higher education because all the authentic reference books are written in English. Again more than 80% information on computers is in English. The websites on internet are mostly developed in English. So English has a hold and influence on science and information technology. Employers prefer those candidates as their workers who speak and write good English. A good command of English can help a man getting a good job and draw a handsome salary. There is no debate about the importance of learning English. But there is debate whether learning grammar is necessary or not to learn English Teachers nowadays suggest the learners to learn a foreign language by using and practising the language in everyday life. They give less importance on English Grammar. In spoken English grammar is not so important but to write correct English a person must learn the rules of grammar To learn English successfully one should give emphasis on practising and at the same time should acquire some basic knowledge about English language. It is good news that the government has importance on teaching English effectively in schools and colleges. Our English text book has been designed for effective teaching and learning of English. There is less discussion about the rules of grammar. Rather there are a lot of exercises where the teacher and the students can be engaged in interactive communication in English. My English text book helps me to speak and use English language a lot in the classroom environment. This book can help those students who are eager to better their skills in English. My evaluation of the language is that we are bound to learn English for the development of our nation. We should learn English to enrich our mother tongue. In a word, learning English is an inseparable part of modern life.
