A Boishakhi Mela is one of the most popular public celebrations in Bangladesh. This Mela bears a special significance to us as people irrespective of class, religion and caste participate in it which helps to strengthen our national unity. Every year it is celebrated across the country with payment enthusiasm. People from all walks of life walk.out of their home and throng at a particular place to celebrate this great occasion. The day opens a new Bangladesh calendar and inspires us to start a life with renewed zeal and new pledges. Baishakhi Mela is observed both in towns and villages. Early in the morning men, women, young boys, and girls dressed in Panjabi and Sharee gather around Ramna Batomul and start singing to welcome the sun of the new year. Last Baisakhi Mela I, with my younger brother, visited the Ramna Botomul. Going there, we enjoyed many things such as puppet shows, dancing, singing, etc. We also took many toys and delicious food items made in old traditions. Besides, Ramna Botomul, such functions are arranged all over the country. Different cultural functions are also held throughout the day. On this day people take traditional Bengali foods like panta bhat, hilsa fish and green chilly. Different handicraft and pottery items are put on display in Baishakhi Melas upholding our rich cultural heritage. Finally, I can say that it lasts for a day but leaves a lasting impression on my mind for a long time.
