Acid is a corrosive chemical substance. Most of the acids are in liquid form. Some acids are very harmful to our body. Acids are mainly used in laboratories and factories. But some unruly youths throw acids on the bodies of the females. The young girls, women and housewives become the victims of acid throwing. There are many reasons behind acid throwing. First, failure in love is the main cause. When a girl rejects a young man's proposal of love, he becomes angry with the girl and sometimes throws acid on her face Secondly, a greedy husband throws acid on the body of his wife if she fails to bring the promised dowry to him. Above all, individual enmity, quarrel, malicious desire and moral degradation are some other causes of acid throwing. The result of acid throwing i very dangerous. An acid victim has to drag a miserable existence. Acid creates wound in the skin and bone. There is no proper treatment of the acid victims. The relatives of the od victims have to pour water on the affected organs. This treatment is helpful for mild acid. The victim has to be hospitalized immediately. In Bangladesh there are many NGOs which deal with acid victims. Bangladesh Acid Survivors Foundation is one of the remarkable NGOs which helps the acid victims. But the activities of the NGOs and the Government are not sufficient to prevent acid violence. The highest punishment for the acid throwers is death sentence. But the Government alone cannot utilize the law against acid throwing. The people of the country must be aware of the harmful effects of acid throwing.
