The overflow of water on land is called a flood. During the monsoon period, it rains in torrents in Bangladesh. So, almost every year flood visits our country. It can be both swing and a curse for us. The main causes of floods in our country are heavy downpour and the rain water that flows from the rivers of India down into our rivers. Flood damages our life and property. Houses are destroyed, cattle are washed away, crops are damaged and trees are uprooted. Thousands of people become homeless and shelterless. The floods of 1988, 1998, 2004, and 2007 caused great damage to our lives and national economy, Water level rise very high. The whole country went underwater. The lavoro was so great that it took a long time to repair the losses. Almost all the crops were damaged. The miseries of the affected people knew no bounds. As a boon floods make the land fertile by carrying a great deal of silt. As a result, crops grow in plenty. Food also washes the dirt away and makes our environment fresh and free from pollution We get sufficient fish during the flood. But after the flood, people suffer from diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, and typhoid, The government should take proper steps to control floods. As a part of the steps, rivers should be re-excavated and a good drainage system should be introduced as early as possible.
