A railway porter is a person who carries goods in a railway station for his living. He is very familiar figure in the railway station. He looks stained with dirt. He is very strong and healthy. He is able to carry heavy loads. He wears a brass plate on his arm that is given by the railway authority. The brass plate bears his number. He wears a red shirt and uses a turban on his head. He carries luggage of the passengers. He eagerly waits at the station for train arrival. A railway porter is very clever. When a passenger falls in trouble and becomes helpless with his heavy luggage, a porter demands higher charge. He is quarrelsome in nature. He likes to bargain with the passengers for his charge. He lives from hand to mouth. Though he works hard, his income is very low.
