Bangladesh mostly surrounded by the Indian sub-continent is located in South Asia. Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh. She had been under the British colonial rule and then Pakistan rule for a long time. But she got her independence on the 16th December, 1971 after nine months' blood curdling struggle against the brutal Pak-army. Here the people speak in Bangla which they established as their mother tongue in 1952 at the cost of life sacrificing movement. English is also widely spoken and used in official activities. Besides, different regional languages and dialects are used here. Most of her people are Muslims by religion. Besides, Hindus, Christians and Buddhists live here peacefully and harmoniously. Her climate is conducive to health as it is moderate . It is neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter. She has got six seasons. The average rainfall of Bangladesh is 203 c.m. She is a riverine country. Her main rivers are Padma, Meghna, Jamuna, Brahmaputra, Surma and so on. The main crops of Bangladesh are rice, jute, tea, tobacco , sugarcane, etc. About 80% of people of Bangladesh live in villages. Their chief occupation is farming and they live by farming. To lead lives religiously and systematically, they follow some customs and traditions. Muslims observe two festivals like Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha. They go to mosque to say their prayers. They exchange salam to each other. Hindus observe Durgapuja as their biggest religious festival. Christians celebrate Christmas Day as their biggest and largest festival. Besides, Buddhists observe Buddha Purnima as their biggest religious festival. In fact, the people of all classes in Bangladesh live peacefully As she is enriched with natural beauty, visitors and tourist come to enjoy this. And this is the natural beauty which is her main attraction . She has some tourist spots. Her main tourist spots are the world's longest sea beach of Cox's Bazar, St. Martin Island Kuakata sea beach, Bagerhat Shat Gambuj Mosque, World's largest Mangrove forest Sundarbans and the ruins of Buddhist Bihara at Paharpur. I personally feel proud of my country Bangladesh.
