The first day of Bangla New Year is called Pahela Baishakh. In keeping with the age-old tradition we celebrate the day with traditional festivities . The day's first programme begins at Ramna Batamul organised by a leading cultural organisation 'Chhayanat. To observe the day rural people arrange traditional games, dramas and cultural functions throughout the country. Shopkeepers open 'halkhata' and urban people observe it in a befitting manner . Wearing traditional dresses they attend the cultural functions arranged by various socio-cultural organisations. People bring out colourful procession carrying festoons, placards, posters, banners and wearing masks . Young people appear to be more interested to celebrate the day. They wish one another saying "Happy New Year". They participate in band music and dance together. However as a special day for the Bangladeshis the significance of the day is very great.
