Man now does anything that leaves a consequence back. As a means of communication, we use vehicles. Again as sources of production, we establish mills and factories. We use chemical and fuels in all these things. Thus we create a lot of by-products such as gases and other substances. They combine to have a bad effect on all elements of the environment. Air, water, soil and other natural elements get polluted.
Pollution of environment is common to all major cities of the world. But it has taken the most fatal form in the capital cities and other industrial cities of the developing countries. Now the air of Dhaka City is utterly polluted. The water of the rivers of our country contains a lot of chemicals. These chemicals are very dangerous for fish and other living beings including men.
The use of insecticides and other chemicals on our land has caused the pollution of water. As a result, the balance among the elements of the environment is getting worse and worse day by day. The ecological health of our environment and atmosphere is going down. It is known to all that with every breath, we are taking life from the air. But now we are taking poison instead of life-blood.
Thus we are always polluting air and water. In addition to them, we are polluting sound to a great extent. It badly affects our nervous system and tells upon our mental health. Now-a-days another kind of pollution is often alluded to. It is odour pollution. We haven't yet been able to plan our life well and in a prudent way. Most of us throw waste and dirty things here and there. Those things rot and produce very hateful smell. These rotten things invite insects and animals which carry disease and spread them all around. As a result, bad smell spreads all around. Air-borne diseases also threaten our life everyday. It has been found in various surveys that the number of air-borne diseases in city areas has increased considerably during the last few decades.
Therefore, now it is time for us to learn from our mistakes and correct them properly. We have to take all necessary steps to keep our environment neat and clean. Consciousness must be created among the general people. Government must play the leading role in this respect. Environment pollution should be checked in all and sundry.
