Good governance has become a hot subject in developing countries. In general, good governance means an ideal governing system that is inevitable for political, economic, social and cultural development of a country. Ideal governing system means the ideal orientation of a state that works best to achieve self-reliance, sustainable development and social justice. It needs an ideal function of government that operates most effectively. Today, it is not mere an academic issue. Rather it is being discussed in aid forum and executive meeting and discussions. But actual picture of governance in our country does not prove to be good and satisfactory. The elements of good governance may be stated as political accountability, freedom of press, sound judicial system, bureaucratic accountability, rule of law, democratisation etc. Besides, combating corruption, probity and human rights are elements of good governance. But in the way of good governance in Bangladesh, the major factors are corruption, inefficiency of bureaucracy, political interference in administration, nepotism and so on. A lot of measures need to be taken for ensuring good governance. We should ensure people's participation in politics and administration. Above all, we need to establish efficient and effective policing system.
