Social value is the measuring rod of mannerism as well as behaviourism of the human beings. Recognition of individual dignity, offering equal opportunities to all, rights of self-control, acquiring self-dependency , democratic rights and privileges, dignity of labour, social responsibilities, individual liberty, proper utilization of riches and resources, mutual tolerance and feelings of respect as well as reverence are the summation of social values. The social values in the past were not strictly kept owing to illiteracy, ignorance and superstition. But they are now strictly maintained for the dissemination of education. The causes of the present social values are remarkable. First of all, people are educated and they are cautious and conscious of their rights and privileges. Secondly, they want to safeguard themselves from unexpected as well as unnatural phenomena. Thirdly, they want to acquire self-sufficiency . Fourthly, they want to enjoy democratic rights and privileges. Fifthly, they are willing to have dignity of labour. Sixthly, they are enthusiastic to have social respect and reverence. However, the effects of social values in the present age are positive. People are becoming conscious of their rights and privileges. They are able to establish their rights. But it is a matter of great regret that sometimes our social values are neglected. Therefore, our social values should be preserved by raising public awareness and implementing laws and order properly.
