Traffic jam is a very serious problem for the normal course of life in a big town and city. It is a usual and common sight in Dhaka City. It actually occurs for the large number of vehicles. In our country, most of the roads are extremely narrow. They are not repaired in time. They are broken and peeled. There are often garbage and building materials unloaded on the roads. There are many unauthorised roadside shops. Roads are often blocked because of meetings and processions. There is a tendency among the drivers to disregard traffic rules. They have also an overtaking tendency. Slow-moving and swift-moving vehicles move together. It also causes traffic jams. Traffic jams are most acute in Dhaka city. People in this city always lose their work times. They are unable to go to or return from their work timely. Students are not able to attend in the hall of public examinations in time. They cannot go to their classrooms for this problem. Patients on the way to hospitals suffer acutely and it often causes death. Traffic jam causes wastage of time. So something must be done to solve this problem. Over-bridges should be built. There may be underground train service and improved bus-service. The roads must be suitable for the smooth movement of the vehicles. Some roads should be made one-way. Certain vehicles may be prohibited to ply during the peak hours of traffic. Above all, traffic rules must be enforced strictly. People should always use zebra crossing to cross the road. They should be conscious of their own lives. So it is high time, we took proper steps in this respect else city life will become intolerable in near future.
