Football is played in an open field of 110 to 120 yards long and 70 to 80 yards wide. The game is played between two teams. Each team consists of eleven players. Of them there are one goalkeeper, two backs, three half-backs and five forward players. A refree conducts the game properly. There are two linesmen and goal judges to help the refree. The ball is placed at the centre of the field. The refree whistles and the play starts. The game lasts for about ninety minutes with a short interval. When the ball pushed in between the goalposts, the goal is scored. The team which can score more goals becomes winner.
The game is played by some particular rules. During the game, only goalkeeper can catch the ball with his hands in his area. In respect of rules the refree makes handballs, fouls and offsides.
The game is a good form of exercise. It makes the players strong and stout. It also teaches the players the value of discipline and co-operation. Sometimes players may receive serious injuries. Even one may face the risk of life.
Although football is a foreign game, it is the most popular game in Bangladesh. The game is full of thrills. No game is so exciting as the game of football. Indeed football is popular all over the world.
